Pinus kaempferi Lamb.
소나무목 소나무과에 속하는 겉씨식물이다. 일본 원산이며 산지에 조림용으로 식재한다. 낙엽성 바늘잎 큰키나무로 높이 20~30m, 지름 60cm 정도로 자란다. 나무껍질은 회갈색이고 가지는 수평으로 뻗거나 아래로 처지며 잔가지는 황갈색 또는 적갈색이다. 잎은 짧은가지에 모여나며 선형이고 길이 15~35mm, 폭 1.0~1.2mm, 밝은 녹색을 띠며, 잎 뒤쪽의 가운데 잎줄 양쪽에 백색 기공선이 있으나 뚜렷하지 않은 것도 있다. 암수한그루이며 구화수는 4~5월 잎이 피는 때와 동시에 성숙한다. 수구화수는 짧은가지 끝에 나며 긴 난형, 황갈색이고 밑을 향한다. 암구화수는 잎이 달리는 짧은가지 끝에서 위를 향해 달리는데 연한 홍색을 띤다. 열매는 구과, 처음에는 아래쪽을 향하다가 열매가 9~10월에 성숙할 때쯤에는 위쪽을 향하며 난상 원형으로 길이 15~35mm, 지름 6cm, 다갈색이다. 실편은 50~60개이며 실편 끝이 뒤로 젖혀진다. 씨는 삼각형이고, 길이 3.0~4.5mm, 종자 길이의 2배 정도인 날개가 있다. 잎갈나무에 비해 실편은 50~60개이고 실편 끝이 뒤로 젖혀지는 것이 다르다. 조림용으로 심으며, 목재는 건축재, 펄프재로 사용한다. 낙엽송, 창성이깔나무라고도 한다. 우리나라 전역에 식재하며, 일본에 분포한다.
