Arum ringens Thunb.
천남성목 천남성과에 속하는 관속식물이다. 알줄기는 납작한 구형이며, 주위에 작은 덩이줄기가 있고 위쪽에서 수염뿌리가 난다. 잎은 2장이 마주나며, 작은잎 3장으로 된 겹잎이다. 작은잎은 넓은 난형으로 길이 10~30cm, 폭 5~10cm, 끝이 실처럼 가늘어진다. 잎 앞면은 진한 녹색으로 윤이 나며, 뒷면은 흰빛이 난다. 잎자루는 길이 12~25cm다. 꽃은 4~5월에 암수딴포기로 피며, 육수꽃차례이다. 불염포는 통부 위쪽이 밖으로 넓게 젖혀진다. 꽃차례의 연장부는 곤봉 모양이다. 열매는 장과이며, 가을에 붉게 익는다. 산지의 습한 그늘에 자라는 남방계 여러해살이풀이다. 우리나라 천남성속의 다른 종들에 비해서 작은잎이 3장씩 달리고, 앞면의 윤채가 강하며, 끝이 실 같이 되므로 구분된다. 우리나라의 천남성속 식물 가운데 가장 큰 잎을 가진 식물이다. 알줄기 약용한다. 푸른천남성, 자주큰천남성, 와사두초라고도 한다. 한반도 남부지방에 주로 자라지만 서해안을 따라 황해도까지 자생하며, 타이완, 일본, 중국 등에 분포한다.
