분류체계
구각목 갯가재과에 속하는 해산 갑각류이다. 몸은 길이 14cm 내외이며, 담갈색으로 등면에 4개의 붉은 줄이 있다. 2개 촉각과 5쌍의 가슴다리를 가지는데 제1촉각은 3개의 수염으로 갈라진다. 5쌍의 가슴다리 중 제2가슴다리는 포각이라 하여 먹이를 잡기 위해 사용하는데 사마귀의 다리와 비슷하게 생겼다. 수심 20~90m의 해역 모래 또는 진흙질 바닥에서 잘 발달된 꼬리마디와 꼬리다리를 이용하여 굴을 파고 먹이 사냥을 하는데 주로 새우를 잡아먹는다. 우리나라 전 연안에 서식하며, 세계적으로 일본, 중국, 타이완, 러시아, 필리핀에 분포한다. 모래 또는 진흙질 바닥에 U자형의 구멍을 파고 서식한다. 밤에 활동하며 낮에는 굴 속에서 숨어 지낸다. 잘 발달된 꼬리마디와 꼬리다리를 이용하여 굴을 파고 먹이를 사냥한다. 주로 새우를 먹는다고 하여 서양에서는 ‘prawn killer’라고 불린다. [1]
