Trochostigma polygama Siebold & Zucc.
산지의 경사 지대, 햇빛이 드는 계곡 주변에 흔하게 자라는 낙엽 덩굴나무다. 줄기는 길이 4~6m, 골속은 흰색이며 꽉 차 있다. 잎은 어긋나며, 넓은 난형 또는 난상 타원형으로 길이 10~15cm, 폭 7~10cm이고, 밑은 보통 둥글거나 납작하게 자른 모양이다. 잎자루는 길이 3~6cm이며, 털이 없거나 드문드문 난다. 꽃은 6~7월에 암수딴그루로 피며, 어린가지의 중간에 있는 잎겨드랑이에서 1~3개씩 달리고, 흰색, 지름 2.0~2.5cm다. 꽃받침과 꽃잎은 각각 5장이다. 꽃받침은 열매가 익을 때까지 남아 있으며, 뒤로 젖혀진다. 열매는 장과이며, 끝이 뾰족한 난상 타원형으로 노란색이다. 10~11월에 익는다. 우리나라 전역에 나며, 중국 동북부, 러시아 동북부, 일본 등에 분포한다. 쥐다래와 비슷하나, 줄기 단면 한 가운데인 수(髓)가 단단하게 꽉 차 있는 반면 쥐다래는 꽉 차 있지 않고 주름져 있는 것이 다르다. 또한 개다래의 잎에는 종종 흰색 얼룩이 있어 구별된다. 꽃은 6~7월에 피고 열매는 10~11월에 익는다. 낙엽성 활엽 덩굴 식물로 햇볕이 잘 들고 습기가 많은 토양에서 잘 자라나, 반그늘 또는 그늘에서도 자란다. [2]
