생물종 상세정보
분류체계
사초목 벼과에 속하는 관속식물이다. 중동지역 원산으로 추정되며 밭에 식량작물로 재배하는 두해살이풀이다. 줄기는 여러 개가 모여나며, 곧게 서고, 높이 60~100cm이다. 잎집 입구에 잎귀가 있다. 잎몸은 길이 13~25cm이고, 너비 10~20mm이다. 잎혀는 1mm이다. 꽃은 5월에 핀다. 전체 꽃차례는 작은이삭이 조밀하게 직접 달려 두 줄로 되며, 길이 5~15cm이다. 작은이삭은 길이 6~11mm이고, 4~5개의 꽃이 들어 있다. 두 개의 포영은 모양이 비슷하며, 길이 6~11mm이고, 까락이 있거나 없다. 호영은 6~11mm로 까락이 있거나 없다. 호영의 까락은 긴 것은 10cm까지 길어진다. 우리나라 전역 및 전 세계 각지에서 재배한다. 밀은 호밀에 비해 포영이 타원형이므로 다르다. 중요한 식량자원 중 하나이다.
