Enteromorpha compressa var. prolifera Greville 1830
연안 해역에 개펄에서 자라는 녹조류의 일종이다. 엽체는 직립하며 암녹색, 원통형으로 자라는데, 실 모양으로 가늘고 몸 전체에서 분지한다. 점상의 작은 기부(基部)로 자갈, 패류 껍질, 개흙 등에 부착하며, 1~3mm 정도로 가늘고 끝이 뾰족한 다수의 가지를 낸다. 세포는 사각형인데 비교적 규칙적으로 세로로 정렬한다. 세포의 길이 20~30μm, 폭 10~15μm로 크고, 편재하는 하나의 엽록체와 1(~2)개의 녹말의 형성과 저장에 관여하는 피레노이드를 함유한다. 연중 생육하나, 봄에 번무한다. 우리나라 전 연안, 특히 서남 해안 개펄에서 대규모 군체를 형성하여 자란다. 세계적으로는 온대지역에 분포한다.
