분류체계
몸길이는 8.7~10.3mm다. 체색은 갈색으로 머리 및 가슴에 불규칙한 밝은색의 무늬가 있다. 더듬이는 가늘고 길다. 날개는 무색투명하고 날개맥은 황갈색이다. 앞날개 앞 가장자리에 황갈색의 얼룩무늬가 있다. 꼬리는 2개로 흰색이며 흑갈색의 고리 무늬가 있다. 다리는 밝은색을 띠며, 넓적다리마디의 끝부분 및 발목마디의 끝부분은 어두운색을 띤다. 배는 갈색 또는 담갈색이며, 중앙선을 따라 1쌍의 길고도 비스듬히 누운 밝은색의 점무늬가 있으나 명확하지는 않다. 성충은 7~8월에 발생하고 등불에 잘 모여든다. 유충은 원통형으로 황갈색이며 녹갈색의 무늬가 있으며, 못·늪·웅덩이 등의 수초 사이나 뻘 바닥에 산다. 쌍날개꼬마하루살이라고도 부른다. 한국·일본·유럽·북아메리카 등지에 분포한다.
