패각의 크기는 길이 100mm, 높이 30mm이다. 패각의 형태는 앞, 뒤로 긴 사각형이다. 각정(殼頂)은 중앙에서 앞쪽에 위치하고 등선과 배선이 직선상으로 평행하다. 앞쪽은 둥글고 뒤쪽은 다소 직선상이다. 껍질은 얇고 각폭은 좁으며 황갈색의 각피에 덮여 있다. 앞 · 뒤쪽 부근은 실 모양의 각피가 덮여 있다. 양 패각의 앞 · 뒤쪽 끝이 열려 있다. 패각 내면은 백색이며 교치는 우각에 2개, 좌각에 3개이며 치구가 있다. 외투선은 비교적 얕고 둥글게 만입한다. 내만 진흙 바닥에 깊숙이 박혀 서식한다. 우리나라 경기, 충남, 전남 연안, 세계적으로는 일본, 중국, 홍콩 등에 분포한다. 수산 식량 자원으로의 가치가 높은 종이다.
