십각목 참게과에 속하는 갑각류이다. 갑각은 폭 5~6cm이며, 둥그스름한 사각형이고, 폭이 길이보다 더 길다. 이마는 앞 가장자리의 중앙이 매우 오목하며, 4개의 이 모양 엽으로 이루어져 있는데, 끝은 삼각형으로 뾰족하다. 바다로 통하는 하천의 바닥이나 주변 계류에 서식하다 가을철 생식을 위해 바다로 이동한다. 전북 부안~황해도, 임진강 수계에 서식하며, 세계적으로 중국의 황해에 연결되는 하천수역, 양쯔강 등지에 분포한다. [저작재산권자]
