투구새우
암컷의 몸길이는 0.56~2.68cm이다. 몸은 살아 있을 때 짙은 녹색을 띠며, 원통형이고 앞쪽이 넓어져 있으며 납작하다. 몸통마디의 수는 36~37개이며, 각 마디에는 잔가시들이 없다. 갑각은 계란형이며, 뚜렷한 경부 함몰이 없고 뒤쪽 가장자리는 움푹 파여 있다. 소악선은 길쭉하다. 복안은 크고, 앞쪽이 서로 가까운 구조로 반원형의 쌍을 이룬다. 단안은 작고 단순하며 갑각 중앙선의 복안 바로 앞에 위치한다. 꼬리마디에는 항문상판이 없으며, 등쪽 표면에 4군의 가시들을 가지고 있다. 양 옆면에는 차상기 기부에 이르는 부위까지 연속하여 작은 가시들이 나 있다. 논이나 웅덩이에 서식한다. 다리로 진흙을 휘저어 조류, 유기물, 원생동물, 또는 모기 유충이나 자기보다 작은 곤충 등을 먹는다. 이 종은 제2소악의 부재로 다른 종과 구별된다. 고생대의 화석에서도 발견되어 살아 있는 화석생물로 간주된다. 경상남도, 전라남도에 서식하며 아시아, 남·북아메리카, 서인도제도, 갈라파고스군도 등지에 분포한다.
