Asterias nipon Döderlein, 1902
크기는 R=43~155mm, r=8~27mm, R=5~7r이다. 팔은 5개이며 길고 통통하다. 등쪽 골격은 4엽 모양으로 이루어진 능판과 3~6개의 엽으로 된 배측판과 그 사이에 있는 판들로 불규칙한 그물 모양을 이루고 있다. 능판은 서로 겹쳐 있으며 규칙적으로 배열해 있고, 보통 1개, 드물게 2개의 가시가 있다. 피새부에는 보통 7~18개의 피새가 무리를 지어서 있고, 그 무리가 1개 또는 2개, 드물게 3개인 것도 있다. 천공판은 원형으로 크고 불룩하며, 반의 중앙과 가장자리의 가운데 부위에 있다. 이 종은 천해의 모랫바닥에 살고 있다. 동해안에 널리 분포한다. 몸이 크고 딱딱하며 가시가 매우 강하므로 어망에 걸려 있을 때 어부들이 어망을 손질하는 데 매우 힘들게 하는 불가사리이다. 한국(동해, 대한해협), 일본(홋카이도, 혼슈 북부), 홍콩, 피터대제만에 분포하고 있다.
