가숭어 bookmark_add Chelon haematocheilus (Temminck and Schlegel, 1845)

몸길이는 1m가량이며, 등은 회청색이고, 배는 흰색이다. 눈은 크지만 노랗게 눈을 덮는 기름눈까풀은 매우 작다. 등지느러미는 2개이다. 꼬리지느러미 가장자리 끝은 무디고 얕게 파여 있다. 개펄이나 모랫바닥에 서식하며 하구역에도 침입한다. 삽 모양의 아래턱을 이용하여 모래 속의 유기물을 섭취하거나 저서성 무척추동물을 잡아먹는다. 2~3월에 부유성 알을 낳는다. 서해와 남해, 동해 남부에 서식한다. 일본, 중국, 동중국해, 타이완 등에도 분포한다. 가을부터 봄까지 어획한다. 양식 대상종으로 주로 서해안에서 생산하며 회와 탕의 재료로 이용한다. 감숭어, 숭어, 개숭어 등으로도 부른다. 가숭어나 숭어의 치어는 몽어, 모치 등으로 부른다. 일반적으로 가숭어와 숭어를 구별하지 않고 모두 숭어라고 칭하나 가숭어의 맛이 더 뛰어나다.
