생물종 상세정보
농어목 꺽지과에 속하는 어류이다. 몸길이는 20cm가량 자라며, 몸은 긴 편이고 옆으로 납작하다. 아래턱은 위턱보다 길다. 몸은 황갈색 바탕에 둥근 갈색 또는 검은색 얼룩무늬가 흩어져 있다. 머리와 지느러미에는 몸통의 무늬보다 조금 작은 검은 점들이 흩어져 있다. 몸은 작은 둥근 비늘로 덮여 있으며, 지느러미에는 날카로운 가시가 있다. 큰 강의 중류 지역 가운데에서도 물이 맑고 바위가 많아 물살이 빠른 곳에서 살며, 주로 물고기를 잡아먹는다. 바위나 돌 틈에 잘 숨는다. 5월 하순부터 7월 상순까지 자갈이 많이 깔린 바닥에 야간에 산란한다. 몸 빛깔이 노란색을 띠는 종류를 ‘황쏘가리’라 하며, 같은 종으로 몸 색이 변한 것이다. 우리나라 서해와 남해로 흐르는 하천에 서식한다. 중국에도 분포한다.
