생물종 상세정보
몸길이가 35cm가량인 바닷물고기이다. 체형은 달걀 모양의 타원형이며 옆으로 납작하다. 두 눈은 몸의 오른쪽에 달려 있다. 두 눈 사이가 좁고 입은 작다. 눈이 있는 쪽은 진한 갈색 바탕에 흑갈색 반점이 흩어져 있고, 눈이 없는 쪽은 백색이다. 연안 해역 저층에 서식하며, 주로 갯지렁이류, 소형 갑각류, 연체류 등을 먹고 산다. 12~2월에 알을 낳는다. 우리나라 전 연안에 출현하며, 일본 홋카이도 이남, 타이완에도 분포한다. 가자미류 중 연안에서 낚시에 가장 흔히 잡히는 어종이다. 건어물, 회, 조림, 찜, 구이 등의 재료로 이용한다. 함경도에서 전해져 내려온 '가자미식해'의 재료로 이용되기도 한다.
