Osmunda struthiopteris L.
숲속 양지바른 습원에서 하록성 여러해살이풀로 지생하는 양치식물이다. 키는 30~100cm이다. 뿌리줄기는 짧고 곧추서며, 땅속줄기는 옆으로 뻗어 새싹을 내고 묵은 잎자루로 덮여 있다. 비늘조각은 좁은 피침형으로 길이 10~15mm, 막질이다. 영양잎의 잎자루는 길이 6~10cm, 적갈색 비늘조각이 붙는다. 잎몸은 도란형으로 길이 40~60cm, 폭 15~25cm, 아래쪽 우편이 점차 작아져서 가장 아래쪽은 수 mm까지 작아져 귀 모양이다. 포자잎은 잎자루 길이 12~30cm, 잎자루 위에 홈이 있으며, 잎몸은 피침형으로 길이 15~30cm, 우편은 길이 4~7cm, 뒤로 말리고 포막을 가진 포자낭군이 붙으며, 가장자리는 깃꼴로 갈라진다. 포자낭군은 우편 중축 양쪽에 2~3줄씩 달린다. 포자는 9~11월에 달린다. 우리나라 경기도, 강원도, 제주도 등에 나며, 러시아, 일본, 중국, 북아메리카, 유럽 등에 분포한다. 개면마에 비해 우편이 30~40쌍으로 많고 잎몸 아래쪽이 점차 좁아지므로 구분된다. 관상용으로 심는다.
