수삼나무
측백나무목 측백나무과에 속하는 낙엽성 겉씨식물이다. 큰키나무로 높이 35~50m, 지름 2.0~2.5m로 자란다. 가지는 대개 서로 마주나며 옆으로 퍼져 전체적으로 피라미드형이 된다. 나무껍질은 적갈색이나 오래된 것은 회갈색이고 세로로 얕게 갈라져 벗겨진다. 어린 가지는 마주나며 아래로 처진다. 새 가지는 처음에는 녹색인데 차츰 갈색으로 변한다. 잎은 마주나고, 선형으로 길이 3~7cm, 폭 1.5~4.0cm이며, 깃꼴로 배열된다. 잎 뒷면 중륵 양쪽에 4~6줄로 배열하는 기공이 있다. 잎자루 밑부분에 관절이 있다. 암수딴그루이며 잎이 나기 전 2~4월에 수분한다. 수구화수는 타원형, 길이 2.5~5.5mm, 아래로 처진 꽃차례에 많이 모여 달린다. 암구화수는 타원형, 적록색이고 짧은 가지 끝에 1개씩 달린다. 열매는 구과, 둥근 모양, 길이 1.4~2.5cm, 폭 1.6~2.3cm, 10~11월에 익는다. 씨는 길이 5mm쯤이며 넓은 날개가 있다. 나무 모양이 낙우송과 비슷하나 가지와 잎이 마주나며, 열매에 긴 자루가 있으므로 구별된다. 중국 서남부 후베이성 양쯔강 상류에 자생한다. 우리나라 전역 및 전 세계 각지에서 식재한다.
