생물종 상세정보
분류체계
측백나무목 측백나무과에 속하는 낙엽성 겉씨식물이다. 호수나 강변에 심어 기르는 큰키나무로 높이 20~50m, 지름 5m에 이른다. 나무껍질은 붉은 갈색, 세로로 갈라져 작은 조각으로 벗겨진다. 어린 가지는 녹색이다. 잎은 어긋나며, 홑잎이지만 여러 장이 깃털 모양으로 붙고, 선형으로 길이 1.5~2.0cm, 밝은 녹색이고 얇다. 구화수는 4~5월에 암수한그루로 달린다. 수구화수는 가지 끝에 발달하며, 아래로 드리우고 길이 1.5~2.0cm, 자주색이다. 열매는 구과이며, 둥글고, 지름 2~3cm이다. 어린 가지가 잎과 같이 떨어지나, 동아가 달린 끝 쪽 어린 가지는 떨어지지 않는다. 메타세쿼이아에 비해서 잎이 어긋나고 구과의 실편이 10개 이상으로 많으므로 구별된다. 풍치수, 방풍림으로 심으며, 목재는 건축재, 토목재, 가구재로 이용한다. 북아메리카 원산으로 우리나라 전역에서 식재한다.
