Quercus aliena var. acuticarpa Uyeki

참나무목 참나무과에 속하는 관속식물이다. 해발 50~1,000m의 계곡이나 산기슭에 자라는 낙엽성 큰키나무이다. 줄기는 높이 25m, 직경은 1m까지 자란다. 나무껍질은 그물처럼 얕게 갈라지며, 어린 가지와 겨울눈에는 털이 달린다. 잎은 도란형으로 길이 5~30cm, 너비 3~20cm로, 잎자루 쪽은 너비가 좁고 양쪽 모양이 다르나, 잎끝으로 갈수록 너비가 넓어진다. 잎자루는 길이 1~2cm로 노란빛 또는 빨간빛이 돈다. 꽃은 5월에 암꽃과 수꽃이 한 개체에서 서로 다른 꽃차례에 무리 지어 피는데, 수꽃 꽃차례는 길게 늘어지고, 암꽃 꽃차례는 곧추선다. 열매는 길이 6~23mm, 폭 7~15mm 정도의 도토리로, 도토리 아래쪽은 도토리집에 들어가 있다. 도토리집은 얇은 접시 모양이다. 10월에 익는다. 잎몸은 대개 도란상 타원형으로 가장자리에 다소 둔한 톱니가 있는 점에서 졸참나무와 구별되고, 기저부가 쐐기꼴인 점에서 귀 모양으로 돌출되는 신갈나무 및 떡갈나무와 구별된다. 우리나라 함경남도를 제외한 전역에 나며, 동남아시아, 일본, 중국 등에 분포한다.
