분류체계
들판에 자라는 한해살이풀로 열대 아메리카 원산의 귀화식물이다. 줄기는 곧게 자라며, 녹색이지만 드물게 연한 보라색으로 높이 40~80cm, 가지를 많이 친다. 잎은 어긋난다. 잎자루는 길이 1~8cm, 줄기에 붙는 곳에 길이 5~20mm인 턱잎 같은 가시가 1쌍 있다. 잎몸은 난형 또는 넓은 난형으로 길이 5~8cm, 잎끝은 둔하다. 잎맥 끝은 밖으로 돌출한다. 꽃은 8~10월에 암수한포기에 피며, 수꽃은 줄기 끝의 수상꽃차례에 달리고 암꽃은 잎겨드랑이에 머리 모양으로 달린다. 꽃잎은 5개, 수꽃잎은 난형 또는 타원형, 암꽃잎은 주걱 모양이다. 암술대는 2~3개다. 열매는 개과, 주름이 있다. 제주도에 자라며, 열대 아메리카에 분포한다. 이 종은 가는털비름에 비해 잎자루 밑에 턱잎 같은 긴 가시가 2개 있어 구분된다.
