Arenaria rubra var. marina L.

바닷가 바위틈이나 갯벌에 자라는 한해 또는 두해살이풀이다. 줄기는 높이 10~30cm, 밑에서 가지가 갈라지고 윗부분에는 샘털이 있다. 잎은 마주나며, 넓은 선형으로 길이 0.5~3.0cm, 폭 1.0~1.5mm, 단면은 반달 모양이고, 끝은 갑자기 뾰족해진다. 턱잎은 넓은 삼각형으로 길이 1.5~2.0mm, 밑부분이 서로 붙어서 잎집처럼 된다. 꽃은 5~8월에 연분홍색으로 피며, 줄기 끝이나 잎겨드랑이에 취산꽃차례를 이룬다. 꽃받침잎은 5개, 난형으로 길이 3.5mm쯤, 겉에 샘털이 있고, 끝은 둔하다. 꽃잎은 5개, 위쪽은 분홍색이고 아래쪽은 흰색, 타원형, 꽃받침보다 짧다. 열매는 삭과, 난형, 길이 5~6mm, 끝은 3갈래로 갈라진다. 씨는 넓은 난형으로 길이 0.5~0.7mm, 갈색이며, 끝이 3갈래로 갈라진다. 우리나라 서해안 및 남해안 지역에 나며, 러시아, 중국, 일본, 아프가니스탄, 카자흐스탄, 파키스탄, 북아프리카, 유럽, 북아메리카 등에 분포한다. 개미자리에 비해 잎은 넓은 선형이고 씨는 2배쯤 크므로 구분된다.
