Alsine media L.
석죽목 석죽과에 속하는 관속식물이다. 길가, 공터, 밭두렁 등 햇볕이 잘 들고 저지대의 습기가 있는 곳에 흔하게 자라는 두해살이풀이다. 줄기는 밑에서 가지가 많이 갈라지며, 길이 10~20cm로 밑부분이 눕는다. 잎은 마주나며 달걀 모양으로 길이 1~2cm, 폭 0.5~1.5cm다. 꽃은 3~6월에 가지 끝 취산꽃차례에 피며, 흰색이다. 꽃자루는 길이 0.5~4.0cm, 꽃이 진 후 밑으로 굽었다가 열매가 익으면 다시 곧추선다. 꽃받침잎은 5장이다. 꽃잎은 5장, 깊게 2갈래로 갈라지며, 꽃받침잎보다 조금 짧다. 수술은 1~7개, 암술대는 3개다. 열매는 삭과이며, 6갈래로 갈라지며, 7~9월에 결실한다. 전 세계적으로 가장 분포역이 넓은 식물 중 하나이다. 쇠별꽃과 비슷하나 별꽃은 쇠별꽃보다 크기가 작으며 암술대가 3개로 암술대가 5개인 쇠별꽃과 뚜렷이 구분된다. 어린순을 식용한다. 우리나라 전역에 나며, 전 세계에 분포한다.
