분류체계
저지대와 산간 지역의 낙엽성 숲 가장자리 초지의 약간 축축하며 그늘진 곳에서 자라는 여러해살이풀이다. 줄기는 곧추서며 여러 대가 밑에서 올라오는데 높이 20~40cm이며, 줄기 전체에 짧은 하얀색 털이 있다. 잎은 어긋나며 잎자루가 위로 올라갈수록 짧아진다. 잎몸은 난형으로 길이 2.5~4.0cm, 폭 3~5cm이며 잎끝은 뾰족하고, 가장자리에 뭉툭한 톱니가 있는데, 줄기 위쪽으로 갈수록 조금씩 작아진다. 턱잎은 가늘게 갈라진다. 꽃은 잎겨드랑이에서 나는 5~10cm의 꽃자루에 달려 5~6월에 흰색으로 피나 때로 옅은 자줏빛이 돌며, 꽃뿔은 두껍고 다소 납작하다. 꽃자루 윗부분에 선형의 꽃싸개잎이 달린다. 입술꽃잎에 자주색 줄이 있다. 꽃받침잎은 녹색이며 끝이 뾰족하다. 꽃뿔은 3~4mm이며 둥근 주머니 모양이다. 수술은 5개, 암술은 1개다. 열매는 삭과이며, 7~8월에 익으며, 세모가 진다. 우리나라 전역에 자라며, 일본, 중국 몽골, 러시아 등에 분포한다. 이 종은 지상부의 줄기가 곧추서는 점에서 줄기가 비스듬히 눕는 낚시제비꽃과 구별된다. 식물체 전체에 털이 거의 없는 것을 민졸방제비꽃으로 구분하기도 한다. 어린잎을 식용하며, 전초는 약용한다. 졸방나물이라고도 한다.
