분류체계
열대 아메리카 원산이며 관상용으로 화단에 심어 기르는 한해살이풀이다. 줄기는 높이 1m 정도이며, 전체에 샘털과 잔가시가 난다. 잎은 어긋나며, 작은잎 5~7장으로 이루어진 손바닥 모양 겹잎이다. 작은잎은 길이 9cm 정도이며, 가장자리는 밋밋하고 끝이 뾰족하다. 줄기 아래쪽의 잎은 잎자루가 길며, 뾰족한 턱잎이 있다. 꽃은 8~9월에 분홍색 또는 흰색으로 피며 줄기 끝에서 총상꽃차례를 이룬다. 꽃싸개잎은 좁은 난형이다. 꽃받침잎은 4장, 선상 피침형, 길이 6mm쯤이다. 꽃잎은 도란형, 길이 2cm쯤이다. 수술은 4개, 암술은 1개다. 열매는 삭과, 선형이다. 우리나라 각지에서 심어 기른다. 열대 아메리카에 분포한다. 관상용으로 식재한다.
