분류체계
유럽 원산의 귀화식물이며 길가, 하천 변에서 자라는 여러해살이풀이다. 줄기는 곧추서며 높이 30~80cm, 위쪽에서 가지가 갈라지며, 전체에 털이 없다. 뿌리잎은 모여나며 깃꼴로 완전히 갈라지고 맨 위쪽의 작은잎은 난형이며 물결 모양 톱니가 있거나 없다. 줄기잎은 잎자루가 없고 밑부분이 귓불 모양으로 되어 줄기를 감싼다. 꽃은 6~7월에 피는데 노란색이며, 지름 6~8mm, 총상꽃차례를 이룬다. 꽃받침잎과 꽃잎은 각각 4장이다. 수술은 4개는 길고 2개는 짧다. 암술은 1개, 암술대 길이는 2.5mm쯤이다. 열매는 비스듬하게 벌어져 위를 향하고 길이 2~3cm, 약간 네모지며 그 안에 18~20개의 씨가 들어 있다. 우리나라 강원도 대관령에서 최초로 발견된 이래 거의 전국적으로 퍼져 자라며, 유럽에 분포한다. 이 종과 유사한 나도냉이는 암술대가 1.0~1.5mm로 씨방보다 짧으며, 열매 길이가 3~4cm로 보다 길고 화축에 가깝게 붙으면서 직립하므로 구분된다.
