분류체계
낮은 산의 양지바른 산기슭, 밭둑 등에서 자라는 여러해살이풀이다. 식물체 전체에 솜털이 밀생하고, 뿌리는 여러 개로 갈라져 방추형으로 비대하다. 잎은 모여나며, 깃꼴겹잎이고, 작은잎은 3~7장쯤이며, 타원형이고, 가장자리에 이 모양의 톱니가 있으며, 표면에는 털이 없고 뒷면에는 솜털이 밀생하며, 흰색이다. 꽃은 5~6월에 피는데 노란색이며, 5수성이고, 지름 1.2~1.5cm이며, 줄기 끝에 여러 송이가 달린다. 열매는 수과이며, 6~8월에 익는데 털이 없고, 갈색이다. 우리나라 전역에 나며, 러시아 우수리, 일본, 중국, 타이완 등에 분포한다. 이 종은 식물체 전체에 솜털이 밀생하고 뿌리가 방추형으로 비대한 특징이 있으므로 국내 양지꽃속 다른 종들과 구별된다. 뿌리를 약용하고, 어린잎은 식용한다. 닭의발톱, 번백초, 뽕구지, 칠양지꽃이라고도 부른다.
