Potentilla fruticosa var. rigida Th. Wolf
고산 습지나 바위 위에서 키 1.5m쯤 자라는 낙엽 떨기나무이다. 나무껍질은 잿빛을 띤 갈색이고 잔가지에 털이 있다. 잎은 어긋나고, 깃꼴겹잎이며, 작은잎은 3~7장, 선형이고, 길이 1~2cm이다. 잎끝은 뾰족하고, 뒷면에 잔털이 나며, 회녹색을 띠고, 가장자리에 털이 있다. 턱잎은 피침형이고, 연한 갈색 털이 난다. 꽃은 6~8월에 피는데 노란색, 5수성이고, 햇가지 끝이나 잎겨드랑이에 2~3송이씩 달린다. 꽃의 지름은 3cm쯤이다. 열매는 수과이며, 8~9월에 익는데 난형이고, 광택이 나며, 긴 털이 퍼져 난다. 우리나라 함경도 등 북부지방에 나며, 러시아 동부, 일본, 중국, 히말라야 등에 분포한다. 물싸리풀과 비슷하나, 물싸리풀이 초본인 반면 물싸리는 목본으로 뚜렷이 구분된다. 관상용으로 많이 재배한다. 잎은 말려서 차 대신 쓴다.
