Ficus pyrifolia Burm. f.

장미목 장미과에 속하는 관속식물이다. 산과 들에서 자라는 낙엽 활엽 큰키나무로 높이 5~20m이다. 어린가지는 갈색이고, 타원형 또는 원형의 껍질눈이 있고, 짧은 가지가 많다. 잎자루는 길이 3~7cm이다. 턱잎은 길게 자라고 일찍 떨어진다. 잎은 원형 또는 넓은 난형, 끝은 점차 길게 뾰족해지고, 밑은 둥글며, 가장자리에 예리한 치아상 톱니가 있고, 길이 7~12cm이다. 꽃은 4~5월에 흰색으로 피며, 짧은 가지 끝에 5~10개씩 달린다. 열매는 이과로 지름 2~3cm, 8~9월에 다갈색으로 익는다. 열매는 식용, 접목의 대목으로 쓰며, 재배용 배나무(<I>P. pyrifolia</I> var. <I>cultiva</I> (Makino) Nakai)는 본 종의 개량품이다. 우리나라 중부 이남에 자생한다. 일본, 중국에 분포한다.
