분류체계
서아시아 및 유럽 원산의 귀화식물이며 들판에서 자라는 여러해살이풀이다. 줄기는 옆으로 퍼지고, 가지는 곧게 서며, 높이 30~50cm, 털이 없다. 잎은 어긋나며, 작은잎 3장으로 된 겹잎이다. 작은잎은 도란형, 가장자리에 가시 모양의 톱니가 있다. 턱잎은 피침형, 길이 3~5cm, 끝이 꼬리처럼 된다. 꽃은 5~9월에 담홍색으로 피는데 줄기 윗부분 또는 잎겨드랑이에서 난 길이 5~7cm 꽃줄기에 20~30개가 모여 머리모양꽃차례를 이룬다. 열매는 꽃받침에서 돌출되어 있고 타원형이며, 2~4개의 씨가 들어 있다. 우리나라 서울, 경기 화성, 충남 삽교 등 중부 이남에 나며, 유럽, 서아시아에 분포한다. 이 종은 보통 토끼풀과 함께 자라는데, 토끼풀에 비해 줄기가 직립하고 가지 끝 또는 잎겨드랑이에서 짧은 꽃자루가 있는 머리모양꽃차례가 줄기 위쪽과 잎겨드랑이에 2~3개가 나므로 구별된다. 녹비로 이용한다.
