분류체계
낙엽활엽 작은 키나무로 줄기는 높이 3-7m이다. 줄기껍질은 붉은 갈색이고 벗겨진 곳은 흰색이다. 잎은 마주나거나 어긋나며 타원형 또는 도란형으로 길이 3-7cm, 너비 2-4cm이다. 꽃은 7-9월에 길이 10-20cm의 원추꽃차례에 달리며, 지름 3-4cm이고, 붉은색, 보라색, 흰색이다. 꽃잎은 6장이고 끝이 주름진다. 꽃이 약 100일간 핀다고 하여 백일홍 또는 목백일홍이라고도 부른다. 중국 남부 원산으로 우리나라 중부 이남, 일본 등에서 관상용으로 심는다. [저작재산권자]
