Oxalis corniculata var. repens Zucc.
쥐손이풀목 괭이밥과에 속하는 관속식물이다. 햇볕이 잘 드는 길가, 공터, 밭에 자라는 여러해살이풀이다. 줄기는 높이 10~50cm, 가지가 많이 갈라지며, 조금 비스듬히 자란다. 잎은 어긋나며, 작은잎 3장으로 된 겹잎이다. 작은잎은 거꾸로 된 심장형, 길이 0.8~1.5cm, 폭 0.7~1.7cm이다. 잎 앞면은 털이 거의 없고, 뒷면은 누운 털이 있는데 맥 위에 많다. 잎자루는 길이 1.7~6.0cm, 털이 난다. 턱잎은 잎자루 밑에 붙으며, 타원형 또는 둥근 난형, 길이 2mm, 폭 1m쯤이다. 꽃은 4~10월에 잎겨드랑이에서 난 산형꽃차례에 1~5개씩 피며, 노란색, 지름 1.0~1.5cm이다. 꽃자루는 길이 4~10mm이다. 꽃받침잎은 피침형, 겉에 털이 난다. 꽃잎은 도란형이다. 수술은 10개이며, 5개는 짧다. 열매는 삭과이며, 길이 1~2cm이다. 선괭이밥은 가지가 거의 갈라지지 않으며, 곧추서고, 턱잎이 없으므로 다르다. 어린잎은 식용하며, 전초는 약용한다. 우리나라 전역에 나며, 아시아, 유럽, 북아메리카 등에 분포한다. (별본주) 여름에 잎을 따서 쓴다. (촉본도경) 초장초를 민간에서는 산장이라고 한다. 옛날 책들에는 나는 곳이 씌어 있지 않고 다만 길섶에서 자란다고 하였다. 지금은 남중지방의 낮은 습지대와 집둘레의 터밭에서 자란다. 북쪽에서 자라는 것도 혹 있는데 잎이 개평초같고 떨기로 자라며 줄기끝에 3개의 잎이 돋는다. 잎 사이에는 작은 누른 꽃이 피며 열매는 거멓다. 여름에 잎을 따서 쓰는데 처음 돋아난 연한 것을 소아들이 많이 먹는다. 남쪽지방 사람들은 이것으로 놋그릇을 닦는데 닦으면 은같이 희어진다.
