[국명이명]
엄나무
낙엽활엽 큰키나무로 줄기는 높이 25m 정도이다. 줄기와 가지에 가시가 있다. 잎은 어긋나며, 둥근 모양으로 길이와 폭이 각각 10-30cm이다. 잎몸은 손바닥 모양으로 5-9갈래로 갈라진다. 꽃은 7-8월에 새 가지 끝에 황록색으로 피며, 산형꽃차례 여러 개가 모여 총상꽃차례를 이룬다. 열매는 10월에 검게 익는다. 목재를 건축재, 가구재, 조각재로 이용하며, 뿌리와 줄기껍질은 약용하고, 어린잎을 식용한다. 한국, 중국, 일본, 러시아 동북부에 분포한다. [저작재산권자]
