분류체계
산기슭의 습한 풀밭에 자라는 여러해살이풀이다. 뿌리줄기는 회갈색이고 향기가 난다. 줄기는 곧추서고 높이 80~100cm, 세로로 난 주름이 있고 보통 자줏빛을 띤다. 줄기 윗부분은 갈라지며 전체에 짧고 부드러운 털이 있으나 밑부분에는 털이 없다. 잎은 어긋난다. 뿌리잎은 잎자루가 있고 잎몸은 2~3회 깃꼴겹잎, 꽃이 피는 시기에 일찍 시든다. 줄기잎은 2~3회 깃꼴겹잎, 길이 8~13cm의 잎자루가 있으며 맨 아래쪽 잎의 잎자루는 절반 이상이 줄기를 감싸고 위쪽은 대부분이 줄기를 감싼다. 잎자루는 긴 타원형, 보라색이며 겉에는 털이 빽빽하다. 잎몸은 삼각상 난형, 길이 30cm, 폭 25cm이며, 가장 마지막 작은잎은 타원상 피침형 또는 선상 피침형이다. 꽃은 7~8월에 줄기 끝과 잎겨드랑이에서 나온 꽃줄기 끝에 겹산형꽃차례로 핀다. 꽃대는 31~58개로 갈라지고, 하나의 꽃가지에 27~44개의 꽃이 핀다. 꽃잎은 5장, 흰색이다. 열매는 분과이며 편평한 타원형, 8~9월에 익는다. 우리나라 전역에 나며, 타이완, 러시아 동시베리아, 사할린, 아무르, 우수리, 일본, 중국 등에 분포한다. 구릿대에 비해 잎 뒷면에 흰빛이 돌고 가장자리에 털이 없으므로 구분된다.
