Convolvulus soldanellus L.

가지목 메꽃과에 속하는 관속식물이다. 땅속줄기는 굵고, 옆으로 길게 뻗는다. 줄기는 땅 위를 기거나 다른 물체를 감고 올라가며, 길이 30~80cm다. 잎은 어긋나며, 신장형, 길이 2~3cm, 폭 3~5cm, 끝이 오목하거나 둥글고, 가장자리에 물결 모양 톱니가 있다. 두껍고 윤기가 난다. 잎자루는 2~5cm다. 꽃은 5~6월에 잎겨드랑이에서 난 꽃자루에 한 개씩 피며, 분홍색, 지름 4~5cm다. 꽃자루는 잎보다 조금 길거나 같다. 꽃싸개잎은 넓은 난상 삼각형, 길이 1.0~1.3cm, 꽃받침을 둘러싼다. 꽃부리는 희미하게 5각이 지는 깔때기 모양이다. 수술은 5개, 암술은 한 개다. 열매는 삭과이며, 둥글다. 씨는 검은색이다. 바닷가 모래 언덕에 흔하게 자라는 덩굴성 여러해살이풀이다. 갯메꽃은 잎이 얇고 삼각형인 다른 분류군에 비해 다육질이고 형체가 콩팥 모양이며, 잎의 끝이 둔각 또는 둥그렇고, 잎의 기부는 심장형으로 화살 모양의 기부를 갖는 다른 종들과 구별된다. 우리나라 중부지방 이남에 나며, 전 세계 온대 및 아열대 지역에 분포한다.
