분류체계
숲속 그늘지고 다소 습기가 있는 곳에서 높이 50~100cm가량 자라는 여러해살이풀이다. 땅속줄기가 짧으며, 줄기는 보통 1대씩 나와 곧추 자라고 윗부분에서 가지가 갈라지며 윗부분에 자루가 있는 샘털이 있다. 원줄기 및 잎 뒷면에 샘털이 밀생한다. 뿌리잎은 꽃이 필 때까지 남아 있다. 줄기잎은 어긋나며, 신장형 또는 삼각상 신장형, 길이 7~13cm, 폭11~22cm, 표면은 녹색, 뒷면은 흰빛이고, 백색 샘털이 밀생한다. 잎 가장자리에 결각상 또는 이모양톱니가 있다. 잎자루는 10~20cm, 날개가 있다. 꽃은 8~10월에 흰색으로 피는데 긴 꽃자루가 있으며, 가지 끝과 원줄기 끝에 머리모양꽃이 1개씩 달린다. 모인꽃싸개잎은 반구형이며 5~7개의 꽃싸개잎 조각은 넓은 난형이다. 꽃이 핀 다음 뒤로 젖혀진다. 암꽃의 혀모양꽃은 7~11개, 4~5개로 갈라진다. 열매는 수과, 도란형, 방사상 배열하며, 윗부분에 흑자색 샘털이 밀생한다. 8~10월에 익으며 우산털은 없다. 우리나라 전역에 나며 중국, 일본, 러시아 우수리, 동남아시아 등지에 분포한다. 어린잎을 식용한다.
