Artemisia selengensis f. serratifolia Nakai
강둑, 하천 변, 습지 등에 자라는 여러해살이풀이다. 뿌리줄기는 굵고 목질이며, 옆으로 뻗는다. 줄기는 곧추서며 윗부분에서 가지를 치고, 높이 1~2m, 붉은색을 띠며 세로주름이 있다. 뿌리잎은 꽃이 필 때 시든다. 줄기잎은 어긋나며 길이 5cm, 3~5갈래로 거의 완전히 갈라지고, 갈래잎은 선형 또는 피침형, 끝부분이 뾰족하며 가장자리에 잔 톱니가 있다. 잎 앞면은 녹색이고 털이 없으며, 잎 뒷면은 흰색의 거미줄 같은 털이 있다. 꽃은 8~9월에 피는데 지름 2~2.5mm의 머리모양꽃이 원추꽃차례에 달린다. 모인꽃싸개잎은 종 모양, 털이 있으며, 모인꽃싸개잎 조각은 3줄로 배열한다. 열매는 수과, 타원형이다. 우리나라 전역에 자생한다. 세계적으로 러시아 동시베리아, 몽골, 일본, 중국 동북부 등에 분포한다. 국내에 분포하는 쑥속의 식물들에 비해 잎이 3갈래로 갈라지고 갈래잎에 톱니가 있으므로 구분된다. 이 종에 비해 잎 전체가 갈라지지 않는 것을 품종인 외잎물쑥으로 구분한다. 잎과 줄기를 약재로 쓰고, 이른 봄에 어린 싹을 뿌리와 함께 채취하여 나물로 먹는다.
