분류체계
빈터나 냇가 근처 습지 주변의 습한 풀밭에서 자라는 여러해살이풀이다. 줄기는 높이 30~100cm이고, 위쪽에 잔털이 많다. 잎은 좁고 긴 버들잎 모양으로, 길이 5~12cm, 폭 0.5~1.5cm이고, 뿌리잎은 뭉쳐나고 줄기잎은 어긋난다. 잎 가장자리에 톱니가 드문드문 있고, 잎 뒷면은 흰빛이 돈다. 꽃은 8~10월에 지름 1cm쯤 되는 머리모양꽃들이 원줄기 끝에서 산방꽃차례를 이루어 피며, 흰색이다. 꽃자루의 길이는 3~8mm이다. 모인꽃싸개는 통형이고 길이 4mm, 폭 5mm이며 꽃싸개잎은 4줄로 배열하고 도피침형, 끝이 둔하며 털이 많으며, 안쪽 조각은 길이 1.5mm이다. 혀모양꽃은 1줄 배열, 백색이고 꽃부리는 길이 5~6.5mm, 폭 1mm이다. 관모양꽃의 일부는 열매로 발달하지 못한다. 열매는 수과, 긴 타원형이다. 우리나라 전역에 나며, 러시아, 일본, 중국 동북부 등에 분포한다. 이 종은 잎 뒷면이 흰빛이 돌고 머리모양꽃은 소형이며 산방상으로 많이 모여 달리므로 속 내 유사종과 구별된다. 어린순을 식용한다.
