Aster annuus L.

국화목 국화과에 속하는 관속식물이다. 전체에 굵은 털이 있다. 줄기는 높이 30~100cm이다. 잎자루는 길며 난형이고 가장자리에 톱니가 있다. 줄기에 달린 잎은 어긋난다. 밑부분의 잎은 달걀모양 또는 달걀상 피침형이며 양면에 털이 있다. 잎 가장자리에 톱니가 드문드문 있으며 잎자루에 날개가 있다. 윗부분의 잎은 좁은 달걀모양, 피침형으로 털이 있다. 꽃은 6~7월에 피는데 주로 흰색이지만 때로 자줏빛이 도는 혀모양꽃이 있다. 열매는 수과, 7월에 성숙한다. 들판이나 길가에 자라는 두해살이풀이다. 어린잎은 식용, 약용한다. 망초에 비해 잎이 넓고 드문드문 나서 구별된다. 북아메리카 원산의 귀화종으로 우리나라 전역에 분포한다.
