Potamogeton pectinatus var. scoparius Wallr.
바닷가 매립지 및 갯벌, 간척지, 석호 등에서 주로 자라지만 드물게 내륙의 석회암지역에서도 나타나는 여러해살이풀로 침수성 수생식물이다. 땅속줄기는 길게 옆으로 뻗으며 흰색이고 가을에 난형의 덩이줄기가 생긴다. 줄기는 많이 갈라진다. 잎은 모두 물속에 잠기며 잎자루가 없다. 잎몸은 선형으로 길이 2~6cm, 끝은 둔하고 가장자리는 밋밋하다. 턱잎은 잎집처럼 되며 밑부분은 잎과 합쳐져서 줄기를 감싸며 길이 1~6cm, 윗부분은 잎과 붙지 않고 길이 약 1mm의 잎혀가 된다. 꽃은 5~6월에 피는데 줄기 끝이나 잎겨드랑이에서 나온 길이 3~10cm의 꽃대에 7~11개가 성글게 달려서 이삭꽃차례를 이룬다. 꽃차례는 길이 15~30mm이다. 열매는 수과, 7~8월에 익는데 난형으로 길이 2.7mm, 폭 2.2mm, 부리는 길이 0.5mm이다. 우리나라 전역의 해안지역이나 강원도 영월 석회암지대에 자생하며, 세계적으로 북반구에 분포한다. 국내 가래속 식물들과 구분되는 덩이줄기와 긴 잎집을 가지고 있으며, 담수와 기수역에 모두 자라므로 구분된다. 수질정화식물로 이용할 수 있다. 여러해살이풀로 침수성 수생식물이다. 꽃은 5~6월에 피고 열매는 7~8월에 익는다. 덩이줄기가 발달하고, 갯벌이나 간척지에 주로 나타나지만 내륙의 석회암지역에 나타나기도 한다. 기수지역의 집단은 담수지역의 집단보다 높은 생장속도와 생체량을 보이며 물새의 섭식에 따른 생체량의 증감도 다르게 타나났다(Van Wijik, 1988). [2]
