Lemna arrhiza L.
연못이나 논의 물 위에 떠서 여러해살이풀로 자라는 부유성 수생식물이다. 뿌리가 없으며, 잎은 엽상체로 타원 모양의 반구형 또는 반구형으로 길이 0.8~1.3mm, 폭 0.6~0.8mm, 높이 0.6~0.8mm다. 끝부분에서 새로운 개체가 나와 붙어 있어 눈사람처럼 보인다. 꽃은 엽상체 윗면의 홈에 수꽃과 암꽃이 1개씩 피며 꽃잎과 꽃받침이 없다. 씨는 공 모양이다. 우리나라 남부지방에 나며, 아프리카, 유라시아 등에 분포한다. 이 종은 개구리밥속 식물이나 좀개구리밥속 식물보다 크기가 작고 뿌리가 발달하지 않아 구분된다. 꽃피는 식물 중에서 크기가 가장 작은 분류군으로 물에 떠 있는 경우 벼과나 사초과 식물의 씨처럼 보인다. 어류 및 수서생물의 먹이가 되며, 수질 정화 기능을 한다. 분개구리밥풀이라고도 부른다.
