분류체계
유라시아 원산의 귀화식물이며 길가에서 자라는 한해살이풀이다. 줄기는 여러 대가 포기를 이루며, 높이는 6~60cm이고, 마디는 3~5개이다. 잎혀는 0.5~1.0mm로 끝은 납작하다. 잎몸은 길이 2~20cm이고, 너비 2~8mm이다. 꽃은 5~7월에 핀다. 전체 꽃차례는 원기둥형으로 가지의 끝에 극히 짧은 가지가 조밀하게 달리며, 길이는 4~9cm이다. 한 가지에 임성의 작은이삭 한 개와 불염성의 작은이삭 두 개가 함께 달리고, 임성 작은이삭의 두 포영의 길이는 까락을 포함해 1.5~2.5cm이다. 호영은 7~10mm로서 까락은 1.5~2.0cm이다. 두 불염성 작은이삭의 포영은 1.5~2.0cm의 까락으로 되고 꽃은 수꽃이다. 우리나라 서울, 인천, 경기도, 강원도 등에 나며, 서아시아, 유럽 등에 분포한다. 긴까락보리풀에 비해서는 까락이 훨씬 짧은 것으로, 좀보리풀과는 포영의 가장자리에 털이 있는 것으로 구별된다. 식용한다.
