Amaryllis radiata (Nakai) T. Koyama
백합목 수선화과에 속하는 관속식물이다. 중국에서 관상용으로 들여온 원예식물이며 산기슭이나 강가의 바위틈 등 해가 잘 비추고 축축한 곳에 자라는 여러해살이풀이다. 비늘줄기는 공처럼 생겼고, 흑갈색이고, 지름 1~3cm이다. 잎은 선형으로 2~6장이 포개져 있으며, 길이 25~40cm, 너비 0.5~1.0cm이고, 가을에 나와 봄이면 사라진다. 꽃줄기는 녹색으로 길이 50~60cm이며, 포는 2장이고 피침형이다. 꽃은 8~10월에 피는데 산형꽃차례에 4~7개가 무리 지어 달리며, 붉은색이고, 작은꽃줄기는 길이 0.5~1.5cm이다. 화통은 길이 약 0.5cm이며, 화피편은 길이 3~5cm, 너비 0.5~0.8cm이며, 약간 뒤로 젖혀진다. 수술은 화피편보다 2배 이상 길다. 열매는 구형의 장과이나 잘 맺지 않는다. 우리나라 거의 전역에서 식재하거나 야생화하여 자라며, 중국, 일본 등에 분포한다. 한국산 상사화속 식물들과는 달리 잎이 9월에 나와 봄이 되면 없어지며, 수술이 화피편보다 2배 이상 길어서 구분된다. 관상용으로 심으며, 독성이 있는 비늘줄기는 삶아서 식용한다. 꽃무릇, 가을가재무릇이라고도 한다.
