Neottia sinensis Pers.
해가 잘 드는 숲과 들에서 비교적 흔하게 자라는 여러해살이풀이다. 뿌리는 4~5개의 굵은 뿌리와 옆으로 뻗는 끈 모양의 뿌리가 몇 개 있다. 줄기는 곧추서며, 높이 10~60cm다. 줄기 아래쪽에 모여난 잎은 피침형 또는 선형, 또는 드물게 타원형으로 길이 5~20cm, 폭 5~10mm다. 줄기 위쪽의 잎은 2~3장이며, 작고, 비늘 모양이다. 꽃은 5~8월에 피는데 줄기 끝의 이삭꽃차례에 타래 모양으로 달리며, 자주색, 분홍색 또는 드물게 흰색이다. 꽃차례는 길이 5~15cm, 겉에 흰 털이 있다. 꽃싸개잎은 좁은 난상 피침형으로 길이 4~8mm, 끝이 길고 날카롭다. 입술꽃잎은 색이 연하며, 꽃받침잎보다 길고, 끝이 구부러진다. 씨방에 털이 난다. 열매는 삭과, 타원형으로 길이 6~7mm이고, 9월에 성숙한다. 우리나라 전역에서 자라며, 러시아 동부, 인도, 일본, 중국, 타이완, 호주, 동남아시아, 히말라야 등에 분포한다. 이 종은 꽃이 줄기 끝에 여러 개가 다닥다닥 붙어 실타래 모양으로 꼬여 홍색으로 피는 점에서 과 내 모든 종들과 쉽게 구별된다. 관상용으로 심는다. 타래란이라고도 부른다.
