Phyllostachys heterocycla f. pubescens (Mazel ex Houz.) D. C. McClint.
중국 원산이며 죽순을 식용하기 위해 집 주변에 식재하는 목본성 여러해살이풀이다. 땅속줄기는 마디가 촘촘하며 길게 뻗는다. 원줄기의 높이는 20m 이상 자라고 굵기는 20cm에 달한다. 마디 사이 길이는 40cm 이상 되기도 한다. 줄기는 짙은 녹색에서 누런색으로 변하고, 마디는 튀어나오며, 포는 일찍 떨어진다. 가지는 마디에서 2~3개 달리고, 잎은 2~4개씩 달린다. 잎몸은 긴 피침형으로 길이 4~11cm, 너비 5~12mm이다. 꽃은 7~10월에 피는데 꽃차례는 5~6cm이고, 작은이삭의 제1포영은 1.5~2.8cm, 제2포영과 함께 털이 있다. 내영은 2.0~2.4cm로 가장자리에 털이 있다. 꽃밥은 1.2cm이고, 암술머리는 세 개로 갈라진다. 꽃은 잘 피지 않으며, 꽃이 피고 나면 죽는다. 우리나라 주로 남부지방과 일본, 필리핀, 베트남, 북미에서 재배한다. 중국에 분포한다. 이 종은 마디가 하나의 고리로 나타나므로 다른 대나무류와 구분된다. 기본종에 유합하기도 한다. 건축재, 공예품 제작 재료로 이용한다. 어린순을 식용한다. 죽신대라고도 한다.
