길이는 약 100mm 정도의 중형 갯지렁이류로서 갯지렁이의 가장 전형적인 모습을 한다. 몸 앞부분의 등 쪽은 짙은 갈색을 띠고 다리와 배 쪽은 연한 살구색이다. 입앞마디는 길이보다 폭이 넓으며, 앞가장자리에는 현저히 짧은 더듬이와 그 옆으로 2개의 꼭지더듬이를 가진다. 유기물 성분이 있는 대부분의 서식처, 즉, 하구, 갯벌조간대, 기수역, 조하대 부착생물 틈 등에 다양하게 서식한다. 일본을 비롯한 사할린 등에 분포하는 한류성 종이며 우리나라에는 전 연안에 분포한다. [저작재산권자]

  • 염분 변화에 대한 적응 범위가 큰 기수성 종으로 하천이 흘러드는 하구나 인접 갯벌조간대의 모래 섞인 펄에서 주로 발견된다. 갯벌의 유기물을 섭취하거나 작은 무척추동물을 잡아먹는 육식성이다. 8월에 채집한 개체에는 알이 들어 있는 경우도 있다. 자웅이체이며, 생식시기에는 체절 안에 정자와 알이 들어차서 암컷은 짙은 녹색을 띠고 수컷은 연미색을 띤다. [1]
