Turbo (Batillus) cornutus Lightfoot, 1786 (소라)
패각은 껍질이 두껍고 딱딱하며, 최대 높이 10cm, 최대 폭 8cm 정도이다. 패각은 모두 7층으로 되어 있으며, 층마다 성장맥이 뚜렷하고, 긴 뿔 모양의 돌기가 돌출한다. 수산물로서의 가치가 큰 종으로 동해와 남해 해역에 서식하며, 세계적으로 일본, 중국, 타이완 등 아시아 동북부 지역에 분포한다. [저작재산권자]

물이 맑은 암석지대 해조류가 많은 곳을 좋아한다. 암반이나 해조류 표면에 있는 규조류나 갈조류를 섭식한다. 생식선은 5월부터 발달하지만 주로 8~9월 사이에 방정을 한다. 유생의 플랑크톤 시기는 매우 짧아서 5일 정도이며, 바닥에 정착한 후 껍질이 발달한다. 바닥을 기는 역할을 하는 발은 세로로 나뉘어져 있으며 각기 교대로 움직이며 이동한다. [2]
