Lymnaea (Radix) auricularia (물달팽이)
물 흐름이 거의 없는 강이나 연못에 자라는 연체동물이다. 껍데기는 높이 14~24mm, 너비 12~18mm이다. 껍데기는 얇아 잘 부스러지며, 연한 황갈색이고, 반투명하다. 촉각 아래에 눈이 있다. 나선층은 3∼4층으로 나탑은 작으며, 각정은 작고 뾰족하다. 체층은 크고 둥글어 껍데기 높이의 거의 전부를 차지한다. 껍데기 주둥이는 넓게 벌어져 있고, 축순이 밖으로 젖혀진다. 배꼽구멍은 없다. 먹이는 식물질과 동물질을 모두 먹는다. 번식력이 강하여 2개월 만에 산란한다. 자웅동체로 다른 개체와 교미하여 여름 내내 산란한다. 많은 알이 들어 있는 한천질 알주머니를 물풀과 자갈 등에 부착시킨다. 폐호흡을 하므로 어릴 때는 수중에서만 산다. 소와 말에 기생하는 간디스토마 등 많은 세균의 중간숙주로 알려져 있다. 아시아와 유럽에 분포한다.
