(북한명) 쇠가막조개
(북한명) 큰가막조개
하천 중류역 모랫바닥에 서식하는 조개류이다. 패각은 중형의 삼각형 모양이다. 각피는 광택이 있고 주로 황색 또는 황갈색이나 모래와 진흙이 혼합된 지역의 개체는 흑갈색을 띤다. 껍데기는 두껍고 단단한 편이다. 성장맥이 뚜렷하고 각정은 거의 중앙에 위치하며 뒤쪽 등의 선에 비하여 앞쪽 등 선의 경사가 완만하고 각정부 주변은 특히 부풀어 팽배된 모습이다. 패각 내면의 측치(側齒) 부분은 옅은 붉은 보라색을 띠고 중앙은 흰색을 띤다. 외투흔이 있다. 주치는 3개이고 측치가 크고 두꺼우며 우각은 2개, 좌각은 1개가 나타난다. 성체의 크기는 각장 34mm, 각고 30mm 정도이다. 우리나라 주요 하천에 서식하며, 세계적으로 일본, 중국 등에 분포한다. 수산 식량자원 및 수생태계 환경 보존 생물로 가치가 높다.
