Securinega suffruticosa (Pall.) Rehder
숲으로 덮여 있지 않은 산지의 공터, 숲 가장자리에 흔하게 자라는 떨기나무 또는 작은키나무이다. 줄기는 곧추서며, 가지가 많이 갈라지고, 보통 1~3m이지만 10m까지 자라기도 한다. 잎은 어긋나며, 타원형 또는 난상 타원형, 길이 2~5cm, 폭 1.0~2.5cm, 가장자리가 밋밋하다. 꽃은 6~7월에 암수딴그루로 피며, 잎겨드랑이에 모여 달리고, 노란빛이 난다. 수꽃은 2~12개씩 모여 피며, 꽃받침이 5갈래로 갈라진다. 수술은 5개, 퇴화한 암술의 흔적이 있다. 수꽃의 꽃자루는 2~4mm다. 암꽃은 1~3개씩 피며, 꽃자루가 5~10mm로서 수꽃보다 길다. 암술대는 3개, 끝이 2갈래로 갈라진다. 열매는 삭과이며, 조금 납작한 공 모양, 지름 4~6mm, 익으면 3갈래로 갈라진다. 우리나라 전역에 나며, 중국, 일본 등에 분포한다. 어린잎을 식용한다. 신약 개발의 잠재성이 높은 분류군이다.
