이매패강 개량조개과에 속하는 해산 연체동물이다. 껍질 길이 45mm, 높이 30mm 정도인 중형의 부유물 여과 섭식성 조개류이다. 각정부가 높고 각폭이 부풀어 둥근 삼각형 모양을 한다. 색은 황갈색의 각피에 덮여 있으며 주연(周緣)은 짙은 갈색 띠를 이룬다. 각정부를 제외하고 윤륵(輪肋)이 나타나며 둘레로 갈수록 굵어진다. 껍질 내면은 회백색이고 교판은 크며 탄대받이가 있다. 수심 20m 근방의 모래진흙이나 진흙 바닥에 서식한다. 식용으로 선호된다. 우리나라 전 연안과 일본, 중국 연안에 분포한다. [저작재산권자]
