생물종 상세정보
잉어목 잉어과에 속하는 어류이다. 몸길이는 보통 50cm 정도이나 1m 이상 자라는 것도 흔히 있다. 머리는 원추형이고 주둥이는 둥글다. 입 가장자리에는 2쌍의 수염이 있는데 뒤의 것이 더 길다. 아래턱은 위턱보다 약간 짧다. 몸은 갈색으로 등 쪽은 진하고 배 쪽은 연하다. 몸의 색깔은 사는 장소에 따라 달라지며 매우 검은색을 띠는 것에서부터 황금색에 가까운 것까지 있다. 큰 강이나 저수지, 댐 등의 깊은 곳에서 살며, 잡식성으로 동물질, 식물질을 가리지 않고 먹는다. 산란기는 5~6월로 주로 오전 중에 암수가 얕은 곳에 모여 알을 낳고 알은 수초 등 다른 물체에 잘 달라붙는다. 우리나라 전역의 민물에 살며, 중앙아시아가 원산지로 만주, 중국, 일본, 유럽에 분포한다.
